So, the same folks who have been yelping that a mosque near Ground Zero in New York would be insensitive to the families of 9/11 victims are rallying on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
King’s speech was delivered during the long and ugly fight for civil rights in America. People died during that struggle; people were beaten, shot, abused and forced to endure serious attacks on their personal dignity. I can imagine that the people who suffered through all that brutality, many of whom are still alive today, aren’t too happy to see the anniversary one of the major events in their struggle politicized by cable TV shills Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and others for political purposes during an election year. Never mind that the views being expressed at the rally run contrary to much of what Dr. King stood for. That states’ rights are being trumpeted on the anniversary of King’s famous speech is pathetically ironic.
You’d think people who spend so much time lecturing others about sensitivity would understand why their anniversary rally is wrong.
the above cartoon and caption are the works of MIKE THOMPSON, political blog writer and cartoonist for the DETROIT FREE PRESS, and appeared in the papers online version on 28 august 2010.
MIKE is a committed lefty. some questions for MIKE: this was a rally which was announced in advance. where were you with criticism for the RESTORING HONOR RALLY before it took place, MIKE? at least the folks who oppose the HAMOSQUE have the testicular fortitude to stand in the open and accept the slings and arrows the left is directing at them in advance of an incident they object to occurring, while you sit on the sidelines and draw bland and uninspiring cartoons. i noticed you made glen look like SLICK WILLIE, is that an indicator you still pine for him?
you say that the views expressed at the rally are contrary to much of what KING stood for. perhaps you would be so kind as to enumerate and explain, in detail, which views were expressed, and by whom (direct quotes, not paraphrasing or interpreting), and how exactly those quotes run contrary to KING.
MIKE, i would like to take the time to remind you of possibly the most famous line from KING'S speech 'I have a dream that one day my four children will be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.' MIKE i hope you are sharp enough to realize KING was talking about all minorities, not just his kids.
that being said i want to point something out to MIKE and others, who have problems with you and i expressing our rights to FREEDOM OF SPEECH and ASSEMBLE. the citizens who gather at the town halls, TEA PARTIES, and rallies have measured OBAMA'S character, and found it to be lacking, to wit;
"The Cambridge Police Department acted stupidly."
"I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."
"No, no. I have been practicing...I bowled a 129. It's like -- it was like Special Olympics, or something."
"It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
on his relationship with domestic terrorist BILL AYERS, "this is an example of what I’m talking about. This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who’s a professor of English in Chicago who I know and who I have not received some official endorsement from. He’s not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis. And the notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8 years old, somehow reflects on me and my values doesn’t make much sense,..", remember OBAMA said this after attending a launching party for himself at AYERS home in 1995, served on 2 boards with AYERS, and wrote a review for an AYERS book. remember AYERS said "kill all rich people.....kill your parents."
we can't forget OBAMA'S relationship with JEREMIAH WRIGHT, the guy who married him, but he never heard a word he spoke during 20 years of sitting through his sermons. "I wasn't in church during the time that these statement were made, I did not hear such incendiary language myself, personally. Either in conversations with him or when I was in the pew, he always preached the social gospel."
the list is endless, literally. and this is why people are pushing back against OBAMA, REID and PELOSI. but all these things are lost on you and your kind MIKE. call us racist and homophobes all you like. AMERICA is waking up.
also i want to turn the mirror back your way MIKE, so you have the opportunity to do a bit of self reflection, into your own hate, political motivation, and lack of class, which are all on display here, in your drawing of an assassinated President, "asking" to be shot.
